In a world where physical appearance is often valued above all else, beauty is a concept that dominates our lives. Many of us find ourselves trapped in the relentless pursuit of an idealised version of beauty, yet the pursuit often leaves us feeling inadequate, exhausted, and disconnected from our true selves.
At the heart of this event is the exploration of "aesthetic violence" — the ways in which cultural norms surrounding beauty can inflict harm on individuals, particularly women.
From body dysmorphia and eating disorders to the pressures of undergoing invasive beauty treatments, aesthetic violence is a term that encompasses the subtle and overt ways in which societal beauty ideals assault our mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
Participants will be encouraged to consider how these standards intersect with other social factors, such as race, class, and sexuality, and how they marginalise women who do not conform to the dominant "norm."
