Black capitalism will not save us. Luxury is in tandem with capitalism and the violence it allows to function. The Black Girl Luxury movement is exclusionary, separatist and not attainable to the majority of us. The women presenting this movement online fit neatly inside the Eurocentric hyper-feminine norm. If the only way you can access this lifestyle is through aesthetic capital, then those of us deemed ‘undesirable’ will be excluded.
